AgentVoice vs Bland

AgentVoice vs Bland

Bland AI builds and runs its whole voice stack itself, including telephony, transcription, the language model and the voice, where Vapi and Retell connect outside providers for most of those parts. Bland describes itself as “an enterprise voice AI platform for high-volume, regulated, and complex phone workflows.” AgentVoice builds on Bland when that owned stack suits a client’s call volume and compliance needs, and this page covers Bland AI pricing as of September 2026, the features that need Enterprise, and the Bland AI alternatives we’d weigh against it.

How Bland AI is built

Bland’s docs say it owns “telephony, speech-to-text, language model, text-to-speech, and pathway orchestration,” and its trust page advertises “zero third-party AI.” In practice you don’t choose a model or a voice vendor. The Send Call API has no model setting, bringing your own model or keys isn’t documented, and voices come from Bland Speech, Bland’s own text-to-speech, which supports voice cloning.

For a buyer, the upside is one vendor answering for the whole call path and a per-minute rate with no token charges to forecast. The downside is less choice, since there’s no documented way to switch models and we found no ElevenLabs voices in Bland’s docs, so a Bland agent speaks with Bland’s voices.

Agents are built in Bland’s agent builder from a prompt, optional Conversational Pathways for branching phone workflows, tools and a knowledge base, and each agent has dev, staging and production environments. Norm, Bland’s AI assistant, can build, edit and debug agents from a prompt. Bland says the platform handles 40+ languages out of the box with sub-400ms response latency.

Bland AI pricing and plans

As of September 2026, Bland’s pricing page lists three plans. Start is aimed at developers and Build at teams, and both bill per minute with the model, transcription and voice included. Enterprise pricing is custom.

Plan Per minute Platform fee Concurrent calls Calls per day
Start $0.14 $0, no card required 10 100
Build $0.12 $299/month 50 2,000
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Not listed

Several charges sit outside the per-minute rate. Bland’s pricing page says telephony is “billed separately, on your own carrier or Bland’s at pass-through cost.” Transferred minutes cost $0.05 on Start and $0.04 on Build, and teams that bring their own telephony pay no transfer fees. Bland’s billing docs add a $0.015 minimum per outbound call, $0.015 per failed call on Bland telephony, $0.02 per SMS and $15 a month per phone number.

All three plans carry a 99.9% uptime SLA. Start includes 10 knowledge bases and one voice, Build raises that to 50 knowledge bases and five voices, and support on both plans covers account and billing questions.

Features that need Bland Enterprise

Bland’s plan table puts several features that phone agents rely on behind Enterprise. Warm and live transfers, SMS and web chat, the appointment scheduling and SMS nodes, custom guardrails, the BAA, SSO and data residency are all Enterprise only. Conversational Pathways, integrations and automations are on every plan, along with four built-in TCPA guardrails.

That split shapes what we recommend. An outbound campaign that qualifies leads and logs the results can run on Start or Build, within each plan’s daily call cap. An inbound agent that texts confirmations or warm-transfers callers to your staff needs Enterprise, and so does any workload that needs a BAA.

Enterprise also changes where Bland can run. Its trust page lists Bland-managed cloud, a VPC in your own AWS, Google Cloud or Azure account, on-premise GPU clusters in your data center, and fully air-gapped deployment. Enterprise adds a Slack channel with the Bland team and forward deployed engineers, and rollouts follow what Bland calls a “28-day deployment framework.”

How we build Bland agents

We build Bland agents around Conversational Pathways when a call has a fixed shape, like lead qualification, appointment reminders or intake. We map the call, build the pathway, connect the tools the agent uses mid-call, and test changes in the dev and staging environments before they reach production. The work includes:

  • Qualifying leads and writing the answers to your CRM through Bland's Salesforce tool or a custom API tool
  • Booking appointments through Cal.com or your own scheduling system
  • Answering questions from a knowledge base built from your documents
  • Handling voicemail on outbound calls, where Bland hangs up by default, so the agent leaves a message
  • Getting through phone trees with Bland's IVR mode and pre-call keypad sequences
  • Posting call results to Slack or your own systems after each call

For larger lists we run batch calls from a CSV. Bland opens new agents with memory and call recording turned on, so for payment or health calls we review those defaults with you first, and recording can be switched off for PCI work. Usage bills to your own Bland account, and when you have our team build the agent, the project is scoped and quoted on its own.

Bland AI alternatives we'd weigh

When a client wants to choose its own model and voice, Vapi and Retell AI are where we’d look first. Both let you pick the language model and use ElevenLabs voices, and Vapi lets you bring your own provider keys so each provider bills you directly. Their component pricing takes more work to forecast than Bland’s single rate, and our pages on what Vapi charges and what Retell charges walk through it.

If a BAA is what’s pushing you toward Bland Enterprise, both of those platforms offer one without an enterprise contract. Retell AI’s BAA is self-signed with no additional fee, and Vapi sells HIPAA mode at $2,000 a month per organization.

For an agent that has to run inside your own infrastructure, Bland’s VPC and on-premise options are a good argument for staying with Bland, and ElevenLabs offers private deployments on AWS and Google Cloud as well. The AgentVoice engine is the other route. We deploy it into your Azure or AWS account or onto your own servers under a license you pay for once, with the source code in your GitHub organization, call data in your own database, and cloud and AI costs billed at cost with no per-minute platform fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Bland AI cost?

As of September 2026, Bland's Start plan is $0.14 a minute with no platform fee, Build is $0.12 a minute plus $299 a month, and Enterprise is custom. The per-minute rate includes the language model, transcription and voice. Bland's pricing page says telephony is billed separately, and transfer minutes, SMS and phone numbers at $15 a month are extra.

Can I try Bland AI for free?

The Start plan has no platform fee and doesn't need a card, and it comes with 2 credits and an inbound number. Calls are billed per minute from there.

What are the alternatives to Bland AI?

We build on Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs Agents and Synthflow as well as Bland, and on the AgentVoice engine in your own cloud. Vapi and Retell let you choose the model and use ElevenLabs voices. ElevenLabs offers private deployments on AWS and Google Cloud, and our engine puts the source code and call data in infrastructure you own.

Is Bland AI HIPAA compliant?

Bland's pricing FAQ lists SOC 2 Type I and Type II, HIPAA eligibility with a signed BAA, GDPR and PCI DSS. The BAA is only available on Enterprise, and Bland shares compliance documentation under NDA on that plan.

Can Bland AI run in our own cloud?

Yes, on Enterprise. Bland lists deployment in your own VPC on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure, on dedicated GPU clusters in your data center, and fully air-gapped, alongside its own managed cloud.

Can a Bland agent use ElevenLabs voices?

We found no ElevenLabs voices in Bland's documentation. Bland agents use Bland Speech, Bland's own text-to-speech, which supports voice cloning. If a particular ElevenLabs voice matters to you, we'd build on Vapi, Retell AI, Synthflow or ElevenLabs Agents.
